- After this course, participants will be able to describe several strategies adults can use to promote resilience, buffer children’s stress and reduce long term adverse effects resulting from the stress associated with COVID-19.

LaWanda Wesley, EdD earned a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Management with a concentration in Higher Education from Drexel University. She is Co-Director of the Center for Equity in Early Childhood Education and Director of Quality Enhancement and Professional Development of Early Education for Oakland Unified School District. She is dedicated to changing the lives of all children, especially those from communities of color, poverty, and furthest reach from opportunity. Dr. Wesley is the co-author of the second book in the trauma series called Culturally Responsive Self-Care for Early Childhood Educators. She trains on trauma modules 100 and 200 in the series and trauma-informed care topics that have a lens of equity and justice.

In 2011, she was named as one of the most 100 Influential Woman of Silicon Valley, CA by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.

Julie Nicholson is Professor of Practice in the School of Education at Mills College where she has been a faculty member since 2005 and directed several innovative programs including the Leadership Program in Early Childhood, a Joint MBA/MA Educational Leadership Program and the Center for Play Research. She is Co-Founder of the Center for Equity in Early Childhood Education, Chief Strategy Officer for the Center for Optimal Brain Integration and Lead Evaluator for the Oakland Starting Smart and Strong Resilient Oakland Children and Kids (ROCK) project. She has published over 30 peer-revised journal articles and is lead author of 7 books and co-author of 2 more, all addressing issues of social justice and equity in early childhood.
