Phillip Tietbohl
PhD, MEd, BS LP
Phillip Jeffrey Tietbohl is a full-time psychologist in independent practice at Shoudt and Reilly Psychological Services, with 30 years of clinical experience working with children, adults, and elders in outpatient settings, school-based programs, and forensic capacities. His first published book, Sailing to Calencia and Other Poems of Kindness, Understanding, and Love (2019) tells about an island of equality, a beloved community with endorsement by civil rights leader, Charles Evers. His second book, A Twist of Hope: Rhymes of Healing, Caring, and Love, is a 200-page therapeutic workbook with journal prompts following the 11 chapters.
Dr. Tietbohl has presented trainings on the use of poetry in therapy for The National Association of Poetry, Therapy, and other clinical organizations and has delivered over 140 interactive poetry programs, including speaking at Pennsylvania’s First Day of Racial Healing, January 18, 2022, Reading’s 2023 Juneteenth Celebration, the local chapter of the NAACP, and RIZE Youth Arts Program. He has appeared on local and regional TV programs reading his work and discussing poetry as a therapeutic aide and how group poetry projects build cooperation and fuel inspiration.
He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master’s in Educational-School Psychology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. He has been a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1995.
