This modular focuses on how HIV/AIDS is transmitted, prevalence of HIV/AIDS, and the psychosocial issues associated with HIV/AIDs. This will provide guidance on assessment, social supports, resources, and social work specific interventions. Learning Outcomes
- After this course, participants will be able to identify the importance of recognizing the stigma, discrimination, trauma, and PTSD experienced by those with HIV/AIDS and determine appropriate assessment tools to use with clients impacted by HIV/AIDS
- After this course, participants will be able to examine the role of the social worker in working with clients impacted by HIV/AIDS and identifying feasible social supports and community resources.
- After this course, participants will be able to recognize social workers’ ethical responsibilities as it relates to duty to warn and disclosure
- After this course, participants will be able to identify the infection rate of HIV, at least two ways that HIV is transmitted, differentiate HIV-infection from AIDS based on accepted disease classification systems, and list at least three standard precautions related to infection control.

A.U. Bankaitis, PhD is a clinical audiologist and Vice President of Oaktree Products, Inc of St. Louis, MO, a multi-line distributor of hearing health care products. Dr. Bankaitis earned her doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in 1995 where her funded research investigated the effects of varying degrees of HIV on the auditory system.
