Question

How much does it cost to start a private practice?

Answer

The most important thing initially when starting out, I believe, is to be HIPAA compliant. Having a VOIP or some kind of phone software is important, and it is necessary to have money to cover that monthly cost.

Start-up costs are also dependent on if you want to rent an office space or have a virtual practice. If you are renting an office space, it could be easily a thousand dollars a month. However, if you are starting out virtually, you do not have to pay for rent and you may only need a couple hundred dollars to cover the HIPAA compliance software such as a VOIP or an electronic health record database.

Therefore, I would say depending on if you want to be virtual or have an office space, start-up cost can range anywhere from $200-1,000 a month. It is important to note that you can start small and not pay initially for many items that you want to eventually incorporate into your practice.
